Travel Makeup Packing List & Tips for your Trip
MAKEUP TIME!
Everything I know about makeup, I’ve learned from my best friends who have been trying to teach me since high school…but alas I am no expert and still ask them to do my makeup for weddings and special events, . Soooo…I’ve asked one of my best friends, Justine (who has her own makeup blog: http://www.justinecudi.com), to write a post on what makeup to bring when you travel.
A little about Justine before she gets started:
Born, raised, and currently working in Chicago, Illinois
Traveled to 17 countries and 4 continents
We’ve been best friends since high school!
Now here we go!
Makeup to go…..
So this is really dependent on the type of trip, but here are my essentials when packing for a vacation.
First and foremost, skincare before makeup.
Skincare:
Makeup remover wipes
They are just easy to travel with and one less liquid item to worry about
Facial cleanser
Under eye cream
Serum & Moisturizer Combo
I’m currently using the NIA: Full Charged Serum x Moisturizer
SPF for the face
I love Tatcha’s SPF. It’s pricey but it’s a pore refiner so on no makeup days it’s great and with makeup it can be used as a primer
Sheet Masks
Great when you’ve been on long flights. The planes dry air can have your skin feeling dehydrated. My personal favorite is the : Dr. Jart: Water Replenishment Cotton Sheet Mask.
Makeup:
Sample size Makeup Primer
I recommend the Makeup Forever Smoothing primer or Dr. Brandt Pores No More
Foundation stick
No liquid and great coverage. I recommend the Hourglass Vanish Stick.
Concealer
Tarte Shape Tape – great coverage can use to spot conceal on the days you don’t want to or need to wear a full face of foundation. Can also use to prime eyes if you’re using eyeshadow.
Eyebrow Pencil
Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof. Long lasting and great for beach vacations
Matte bronzer
Contour, bronzer, and use as eyeshadow. I recommend the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil
Translucent Pressed powder
Great for blotting throughout the day and you can use it to set concealer/foundation. I recommend the Kat Von D Lock it – Blotting Powder or the Too Faced Primed and Poreless
Multistick
I recommend the Bite Multistick for blush and lip. You can apply with your fingers so you don’t have to bring an additional brush.
Highlight stick
Another item easy to apply with your fingers so you don’t need a brush to pack.
Pencil Eyeliner
You don’t need an additional brush and can build if you just need a simple makeup look or a heavier night time makeup look.
The Marc Jacobs fineliner is great for tightening and doesn’t smudge.
Eyelash curler
I recommend the Shu uemura eyelash curler
Waterproof mascara
I typically go for whatever the last sample mascara I was given, but if you don’t have one I recommend the Maybelline Big Shot Colossal
Lips:
A bold Red
You can take a minimal makeup look (some concealer and mascara) and add some red lips to dress it up.
Dose of Color: Kiss of Fire. No fuss, no liner needed, and its long lasting
Lip moisturizer & balm for dry skin patches
I don’t think an eyeshadow palette is necessary, but for those looking for a compact eyeshadow palette, I have a few recommendations for different budgets. I typically look at packaging to make sure it’s not bulky and that the palette has a base color, a crease color, and a lid color. Here are my top picks:
Brushes:
Duel ended brushes are great for traveling
Foundation Buffer Brush
Setting brush (set under eye and face) & Angled brush ( easy to use for bronzing/contouring)
The following you don’t need if you aren’t bringing an eyeshadow palette
Fluffy Blending Eye shadow brush
Oval Fluff & Smudger/precision
And that’s it!
Thanks Justine for writing this! Depending on where you are heading and the climate, you can adjust the list above accordingly. For example, in Southeast Asia…it was super hot everyday, so I barely wore any makeup except for eyeliner, mascara, and chapstick. So modify the list depending on how dressed up you want your face to be.
